Condor Ridge Ranch – LaurinaWashed - Goleta, CA
Laurina is a rare Arabica variety first cultivated on the African island of Réunion in the 18th century. Unique among coffees, it naturally contains about 50% less caffeine than typical Arabicas. Long before Geisha rose to prominence, Laurina was considered the world’s most exclusive coffee. It was served at the court of French King Louis XV, and later favored by notable figures such as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, French novelist Honoré de Balzac, and President Jacques Chirac.
This outstanding Laurina comes from FRINJ co-founder Jay Ruskey’s Condor Ridge Ranch in Goleta, California. Originally known as Good Land Organics, it’s the birthplace of California coffee and remains our Grand Cru—producing our most coveted lots year after year.
The farm’s unique terroir and subtropical microclimate support a diverse mix of tropical fruits like lychee, dragon fruit, mango, and banana—crops rarely found elsewhere in the state. Cultivated in this vibrant ecosystem, our Laurina develops a beautifully complex cup profile that reaffirms why the variety has been prized for centuries.
This lot was processed in the washed style: pulped, fermented for two days, then washed and dried in our climate-controlled facility. The result is a clean, high-fidelity expression of what makes California-grown Laurina so distinct.
