Vedder Ranch GeishaGeisha - Washed - Carpinteria, CA
We’re pleased to share this organically grown, washed-process Geisha from Vedder Ranch in Carpinteria. This lot stood out immediately on the cupping table with its vibrant dance of juicy wild berry and lavender-laced honey notes. It’s a delicious example of what makes the Santa Barbara coast such a unique coffee-growing region.
Vedder Ranch is a family-owned organic farm in the hills above Carpinteria. Long celebrated for its sustainably grown citrus and avocados, the farm has recently begun producing exceptional Geisha and Caturra Rojo thanks to its south-facing slope, cool foggy mornings, and warm subtropical afternoons.
This coffee was processed using the washed method. In this technique, ripe cherries are fermented in water for 24–48 hours before all fruit is removed and the beans are thoroughly washed. This results in a clean, vibrant cup, allowing the coffee’s inherent flavors to shine through with exceptional clarity.
Geisha (or more properly “gesha”) traces its origin back to Ethiopia’s Gori Gesha Forest, where its seeds were first collected in the 1930s. However, it wasn’t until 2005 that Geisha gained global recognition when it broke price records at the prestigious Best of Panama competition and auction. Today it continues to be prized for the exotic cup that it provides—something that clearly shines through in this Californian example.
