Finca 1890 Catuaí Rojo Lot 02Catuaí Rojo - Washed - Carpinteria, CA

As its name suggests, Lot 02 is the second expression of Finca 1890’s excellent Washed Catuaí Rojo. Grown in the same exceptional Carpinteria soil, this lot was picked a full month later than the first.

It also underwent an additional processing step: yeast inoculation, where a live culture is introduced during fermentation before washing. This cutting-edge technique allows for greater control, amplifying both the texture and acidity of the coffee.

Lot 02 showcases a mellow strawberry acidity and a chocolate-laced creaminess reminiscent of chocolate éclairs and profiteroles (in other words, cream puffs).

Finca 1890 is located in the hills above Carpinteria, a classic California beach town just south of Santa Barbara. Thanks to the region’s unique microclimate and fertile soil, it’s an ideal place to grow tropical fruits rarely seen in California, like papayas, bananas, and coffee cherries.

Catuaí Rojo is a coffee variety that was developed in Brazil in the 1940s. It’s a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra that combines environmental resilience with excellent cup quality. Today, Catuaí thrives across the Americas, where it is prized for its adaptability and naturally sweet cup profile.
