Finca 1890 GeishaWashed - Carpinteria, CA
This washed Geisha from Finca 1890 is a delicate coffee grown in Santa Barbara county just outside the sleepy beach town of Carpinteria. The farm is situated in a unique microclimate that is unusually well-suited to tropical fruits not typically grown in the state: bananas, guavas, cherimoyas, and coffee all thrive there.
This Geisha was hand-picked at peak ripeness, floated to remove defects, de-pulped on the day of harvest, and wet fermented in barrels for 36 hours. It was then dried slowly over two weeks with constant manual turning until it reached 11 percent moisture.
In the cup, it reveals a balanced profile, with an exotic mixture of florals, citrus, and chocolate that dance across the palate in a way that is generally only found in this variety.
Geisha (or more precisely, Gesha) originates from Ethiopia’s Gori Gesha Forest. Though it was first collected in the 1930s, it wasn’t until 2005, when it shattered price records at the Best of Panama competition, that Geisha became a global sensation.
Today it remains one of the most sought-after coffees in the world, known for its exotic aromatics and refined cup character—qualities that shine in this standout California-grown expression.
