Mraz Family Farms – GeishaNatural - Morro Hills, CA

This naturally processed Geisha comes from one of our most celebrated farms: Jason Mraz’s Mraz Family Farms. Situated in the Morro Hills Region near coastal Oceanside in San Diego County, this farm consistently produces some of our highest-scoring and most in-demand coffees. There is something very special in this farm’s rich soil, distinctive microclimate, and commitment to organic growing practices (the farm is certified organic).

This Geisha offers an herbaceous twist on the classic style that is quite refreshing in the cup with a peachy fruitiness joined by citrus and ribbons of milk chocolate. It’s a coffee that reminds us of that timeless summer cocktail, the Peach Basil Smash.

At just 60 feet above sea level, Mraz Family Farms might seem like an unlikely place for great coffee, but its location roughly 10 degrees above the traditional coffee growing belt, paired with a gentle coastal climate, mimics the temperature curve of high-elevation equatorial farms. This rare combination of latitude and environment produces coffees of remarkable character.

Geisha (or more properly “gesha”) traces its origin back to Ethiopia’s Gori Gesha Forest, where its seeds were first collected in the 1930s. However, it wasn’t until 2005 that Geisha gained global recognition when it broke price records at the prestigious Best of Panama competition and auction. Today it continues to be prized for the exotic cup that it provides—something that clearly shines through in this Californian example.
